Saintly Bernards Standard Adoption Contract.

All adopted families must adhere to our adoption contact.

Heartworm, Flea and Tick Preventative: 2nd of the month YEAR ROUND.

Feeding instructions: Approximately 2 cups two times per day of Taste of the Wild. Multiple small meals per day and feeding in the down position lessen the potential for bloat.

Fresh drinking water should be available at all times, but water intake should be monitored until bathroom habits are known.

High quality proteins (beef, turkey, chicken, venison, buffalo, salmon, etc) can be cooked (broiled, baked or sautéed) can be served with the kibble meal (about a 2tbls-4tbls).

Fresh fruit (apples, mangos, bananas, peaches, melon, etc.) is a great treat for good behavior.

I hereby agree to the following:

  1. To provide proper and sufficient food, water, shelter, veterinary treatment and humane protection as the animal may require through its lifetime.
  2. To keep this dog as a house pet to be exercised in a fenced yard or on a leash and not to be free to roam the streets, or chained or tied. This dog shall not be used as an “attack dog” or “guard dog” or for breeding.
  3. To assume all legal risks and obligations of ownership.
  4. Not to surrender this live animal to be used for purposes of vivisection or experimentation.
  5. To allow a designated agent of the Saintly Bernards Rescue to periodically visit and inspect any premises, upon prior notice, to evaluate the conditions under which the adopted dog is kept.
    1. I also agree to allow said agent or member to remove any adopted dog, after any such inspection, if the agent or member is not reasonably satisfied that said dog is being properly cared for, or if the agent or member reasonably believes the animal is being abused.
    2. Should I disagree with the agent or member’s judgment, I agree not to sue the Saintly Bernards Rescue but will submit the dispute to arbitration with a neutral arbitrator, agreed to by both sides, with each side to bear its own costs and attorney’s fees for said arbitration.
  6. To notify an agent or member of the Saintly Bernards Rescue if said animal is lost, believed stolen, dies, or if I move. Also, to retrieve the animal from any shelter, if the dog is impounded.
  7. Not to transfer ownership of the adopted dog and to return the animal to the Saintly Bernards Rescue if I am unable to keep it for any reason.
  8. To provide routine, yearly veterinary care; in addition, to procure medical aid at once, at my expense, should said animal be ill or require medical intervention.
  9. To respect and obey all applicable animal control laws imposed by every city, county, state or federal government.
  10. To pay and reimburse forthwith the Saintly Bernards Rescue for any and all legal fees and court costs it incurs in enforcing the terms and conditions of this agreement.
  11. To send copies of all records for veterinary care/visits to the Rescue Coordinator.
  12. Enrollment in and successful completion of professional obedience classes WITHIN THREE MONTHS are requirements of this contract. Documentation of completion shall be mailed to the Rescue Coordinator immediately on completion of the course or the dog will be reclaimed.
  13. Any home with an unaltered companion animal will not be considered for placement of a Saintly Bernards Saint.


  1. I understand that I have a right to return the dog, at my expense, to the Saintly Bernards Rescue within two weeks (14 days) for a refund of the adoption fee, minus a $175.00 administrative and re-vet fee, if the adoption is unsuitable. After two weeks, no portion of the fee will be refunded.
  2. I hereby acknowledge receipt from the Saintly Bernards Rescue of the above described animal and therefore promise and agree to the conditions set forth. I understand every effort is made to place only healthy animals and animals of suitable temperament, and that the Saintly Bernards Rescue cannot and does not guarantee the health of any animal adopted from it.


In consideration of allowing Owner to adopt this dog, Owner agrees to the following terms and conditions, intending to be bound by them:

Owner understands and agrees that this rescue dog was previously unwanted or lost and may have been rescued by us from a dangerous, unhealthy and/or cruel situation; and that this could have long-lasting effects on the dog.

Owner understands and agrees that we make no representations, guarantees or warranties of any kind about the dog, including without limitation, representations as to the condition, training, personality or temperament of the dog.

Owner agrees that from the date Owner takes possession of the dog that Owner assumes any and all risks and liabilities thereafter associated with the dog and becomes fully responsible for the dog.

Further, Owner agrees that as of the date Owner takes possession of the dog, that the Saintly Bernards Rescue, its volunteers, officers, directors and representatives are not liable for any claims, legal actions, losses, injuries, damages, costs, expenses or liabilities whatsoever, of any nature, arising thereafter in connection with the dog, including without limitation, any claims or damages arising from the dog’s actions, condition, health, behavior or temperament; and Owner agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Saintly Bernards Rescue, its volunteers, officers, directors and representatives from and against any and all claims, legal actions, losses, injuries, damages, costs, expenses (including attorneys fees) or liabilities caused by the dog once adopted.

Owner agrees to the foregoing for him/herself, his/her heirs, executors, administrators and assigns.

I hereby acknowledge that I have read and understand the terms and conditions of this Adoption Agreement, and will keep the dog described herein as part of my family.
